About This Site

This site uses XHTML, Frames, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and JavaScript. The pages pass the W3C XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1 validators and the W3C link Checker. However, the general style sheet has two errors: one from a setting needed for Internet Explorer 7.0 and earlier to accommodate a nonstandard way of setting opacity values and another for the CSS 3.0 opacity value setting, which some browsers now recognize. The html pages on this site comply with Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act for web site accessibility.

The Read Out Loud feature in Adobe Acrobat Professional read all four PDFs through without stopping; however, strictly speaking the PDFs are not fully 508 compliant: they were generated without tags and the images do not have alt text. However, the images and tables are described in the surrounding text, and given that the information is old and posted here for writing samples, there is probably not an urgent need to make them fully 508 compliant at this time.

The site uses two style sheets: A general style sheet for the site and an articles style sheet that is specific to the articles section. Scroll down in general.css to see how the home page and left navigation design is coded.

The site also uses some search engine optimization (SEO) techniques through titles and keyword metatagging.
